MoH requests planning of second dose COVID-19 vaccination
The Ministry of Health suggested localities urgently review all those who have received their first dose of the vaccine and make a plan to inject the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine for those who have enough time.
At the same time, the units should immediately contact the National Institute of Hygiene And Epidemiology, the Pasteur Institute or the Military Zones to receive and transport the vaccine according to the decision on the distribution of vaccines in batches of the MoH.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) has advised giving the same COVID-19 vaccine in the second dose as was used for the first, as recommended by the World Health Organisation.
But in the case of limited supply, the Pfizer vaccine can be given as the second dose for those who have received the AstraZeneca vaccine for their first jab, with the consent of those to be vaccinated. The spacing between the two doses should be 8-12 weeks.
The MOH advised against using the Moderna vaccine or other vaccines for the second shot for those who have received the AstraZeneca vaccine in their first jab.
It emphasised that those given their first shot of the Sinopharm, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines must be given the booster shot of the same type, with the spacing as recommended by their manufacturers.
The MoH also requested units report daily and report after the end of vaccinations. Any unit that administered a second dose of Pfizer to a person who received the first dose of AstraZeneca should report it separately.
To date, Vietnam has received more than 27 million doses of vaccines from different sources. The MoH has distributed most of the received vaccines to localities and units. Vietnam has injected more than 19.7 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. Of which, more than 14.7 million people have been vaccinated with one dose of the vaccine and more than 2.5 million people have received two doses.
