Established in 2018 by two British men Daniel Nivern and Edward Holroyd Pearce, Virtual Internships collaborates with universities, schools, state agencies, and companies to offer students and employees upskilling courses, mentor coaching, and guaranteed remote work placements.

The company runs programs across 18 disciplines and works to help young people kickstart their careers and improve their digital skills.

Internships improve a student’s chances of securing a job offer by roughly 16 percent, according to a 2019 student survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers in the U.S. However, movement restrictions and border closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic have made it more difficult for students to apply for and take up internships.

To circumvent these barriers, Virtual Internships incorporates technology and best practices for remote work setups. The entire process for internship, from application and screening to accepting candidates, takes place on the company’s online platform.

Apart from the varied assistance offered to students, employers receive access to video and application screening tools, internship project templates, placement support, and content on remote team management.

Virtual Internships says that student sign-ups grew to 6,000 in 2020 from 100 in 2019, and that over 100 universities and educational institutions as well as 4,000 host companies across 70 countries have taken part in its programs.
