Heartfelt rides in Bac Giang
Passing by the house, seeing their child but dare not stop the car
At 9 pm, Mr. Than Van Vuong completed a trip carrying 8 workers of Hosiden Company (Quang Chau Industrial Park, Viet Yen, Bac Giang) who were recently found to be positive for SARS-CoV-2 to a medical facility for treatment.
This is the 4th trip of the day and it is possible that there will be more during the night as the number of cases continues to increase.
“They are the ones who dare to sacrifice, because most of them are transporting Covid-19 patients. Many brothers run away from their families to volunteer. Because of contact with F0, every family is worried, but they put their family aside to come here to volunteer, put in effort, work day and night without asking for anything. Do Hai Quan, Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Viet Yen District Medical Center”
For the past 3 weeks, Mr. Vuong and 15 members of the Bac Giang Driver Association, Viet Yen district branch, have taken the district health center as their home, assigned the crew to drive regardless of time, "receive orders" to pick up and take F0 , F1. With just a little mistake, they themselves can become Covid-19 patients.
"Participating in this "battle", the whole group decided to accept the risk of infection because the whole Viet Yen was in the midst of a pandemic. The epidemic has yet to come at my house, but seeing that the people around me are very miserable, the group just wants to make a small contribution to soon push back the epidemic and everyone is safe," Vuong shared and said that the members always did the right thing. epidemic prevention process to "preserve the force" because it is not known when it will end.
In the early days, the District Health Center arranged to rent a boarding house for the group to have a place to rest. But the work is always overloaded, the accommodation is far away, so it is quite inconvenient, the group decided to move back to the Center, asking for a small room as a place to stay.
The plan is usually to split into 2 shifts per day, take time to rest and rotate work. However, during the past week, more than a dozen ambulances were still operating at full capacity, like shuttles transporting Covid-19 patients and F1 cases from neighborhoods, inns, workshops, factories to destinations. isolation, treatment... regardless of time, rain or heat.
“There are days when I have to drive all night, until 5 am to rest because F0 and F1 are too crowded, but everywhere is overloaded. The hardest part is wearing a protective suit on hot sunny days. Sitting in the car, sweat flows into a stream. Then I understand how hard it is for medical staff. The story of fainting because of fatigue, because of dehydration after many hours of hard work is real, especially for ladies with dainty legs and soft hands, "said Vuong.
Vuong's house is about 7km from the district health center, but since the day he joined the fight against the epidemic, Vuong has not dared to "visit" the house even though he misses his 3 children dearly.
“There were times when I drove a patient car through the door, I just dared to slow down a bit, look at my child and then move on. Family meetings are only enlisted through Facetime calls. My parents are also old, they still call because they are worried about me. But I still said "when the outbreak is finished, I will go home, the whole family can rest assured", Mr. Vuong said
Dr. Do Hai Quan, Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Viet Yen District Medical Center said, with the support of the units, there are more than a dozen ambulances and about 15-17 drivers taking turns driving every day and night, in which the majority are volunteers.
“Without them, the actual transportation needs cannot be met. In the past few days, the ambulances turned around and ran continuously, so the drivers just quickly eating, taking turns to sleep a little and then hit the road. Moreover, it is more difficult to collect F0 at home. There are cases where the phone is turned off at night and cannot be contacted, they have to ask the local government to go from house to house to take patients to the hospital, avoiding the source of infection spreading to the community," said Dr. Quan.
Charity trips for the community
Talking to Reporter of Traffic Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Dinh The (President of Bac Giang Driver Association) shared: “Initially, seeing someone calling for somebody to deliver aid to people in epidemic areas, we had the drivers, if you have a car, you will receive a free ride.
From a few small trips, now volunteering activities spread throughout Bac Giang province. The branches are organized and are supported by many members. You pay for all the fuel yourself, every day receive support goods or transport medical staff to each commune and ward to test for people."
Sending me a long list of items that need relief for quarantine points in remote communes in Luc Ngan area, Ms. Tran Thi Tram (member of Bac Giang Driver's Association Luc Ngan branch) said: "Many still joke that "where Tran Tram is needed, where it is difficult to have Tran Tram", anyone who has aid for the people who need to transport, we will be on the road immediately. Or where there is a need, just give me a call and I will go with you to mobilize to support."
Just the day before, her group carried more than 300 cardboard boxes of milk and many personal items such as masks, sanitary bandages, disinfectant water, etc., along with many other necessities and more than 20 fans to the isolation point of the boarding school for ethnic minorities of Lang Giang district.
“In many quarantined places, people lack everything because the facilities are requisitioned. Many scattered families are isolated in one place each, with isolated children with no relatives next to them. I love you so much, so what you can do is try your best, no matter how hard it is," Tram said.
As for Mr. Tuan Hung (member of Lang Giang branch) shared, in the past few days, the group has mobilized vehicles to transport doctors and nurses to villages and communes to take samples. Due to the characteristics of the road from the district to the village, the commune is very far, hot and sunny, if they have to ride a motorbike, it will be very hard, while the epidemic has not stopped.
“Normally, the drivers rest and eat comfortably, but when participating in the fight against the epidemic, we have to limit contact, very stressful and tired, especially on hot sunny days. There are trips to deliver.
