Vietnam coronavirus tally in new wave tops 20,000
200 cases were recorded in HCMC, 91 in Dong Thap, 13 in Phu Yen, 11 in An Giang, 10 in Quang Ngai, seven in Ca Mau, four in Bac Ninh, three each in Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Gia Lai and Bac Giang, two each in Bac Lieu and Tra Vinh, and one each in Nghe An, Binh Dinh and Hanoi.
All the cases in HCMC, Dong Thap, Phu Yen have been contained within quarantine zones and locked down areas, according to the Health Ministry.
All the cases in An Giang, Ca Mau, Bac Giang, Nghe An and Hanoi are close contact cases.
Five cases in Quang Ngai are close contact cases, and five are being contact traced.
Three cases in Bac Ninh are close contact cases, and one returned from HCMC.
One case in Khanh Hoa is linked to the Ninh Hoa market in the eponymous town, and two are being contact traced.
Two cases in Gia Lai returned from the southern Binh Duong and HCMC, and one is a close contact case.
One case in Tra Vinh is a close contact case, and one is linked to the Binh Dien market in HCMC's District 8.
All the cases in Lam Dong, Bac Lieu and Binh Dinh either returned from HCMC or are linked to outbreaks there.
Since the new wave of Covid-19 emerged in Vietnam on April 27, local infections have been recorded in 56 of its 63 cities and provinces.
HCMC now leads the country with the highest number of cases, at 8,585.
