The northern region turned cold from November 22, with lowest temperatures at under 8 degrees Celsius in some mountainous areas, due to the impact of a cold air front.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the cold air began to affect the northern mountainous provinces from early morning of November 22 and will then affect some places in central-central localities.

Due to the influence of the cold air, the northern region will face rain, showers and thunderstorms today, with moderate to heavy localised rain.

From November 22-24, localities from Nghe An to Quang Ngai in particular will suffer showers, with moderate to heavy rain and localised thunderstorms.

The northern mountainous areas will turn cold with the temperature ranging from 14 to 17 degrees Celsius, with lowest temperatures under 8 degrees Celsius in some places. From November 22, the cold air will affect localities from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue with the lowest temperature ranging from 15 to 18 degrees Celsius.

Today, the capital city of Hanoi is expected to see showers, with moderate and heavy rain locally, while the weather will turn cold with lowest temperatures ranging from 14 to 17 degrees Celsius.

In the mainland, there is a strong northeasterly wind at level 3-4, and even level 5 in coastal areas. In the Gulf of Tonkin and the North of the East Sea/South China Sea, including the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago, there are strong northeasterly winds at level 6-7, sometimes level 8, with gusts at level 9.
