PM wants open Chinese market for Vietnamese produce
During a dialogue with his Chinese counterpart Li Qiang, Chinh requested that China continue providing opportunities for Vietnamese commerce and imports, particularly for Vietnamese produce, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported Tuesday.
This was the first dialogue between the two leaders since Li became China’s premier in March.
Chinh also requested that Vietnam and China look into ways to increase infrastructure connectivity on land, water and air, and that China provides opportunities for Vietnam to open an office for commerce promotion.
In response, Li said China is willing to open its market to Vietnamese goods, especially agricultural products. He also requested the bolstering of strategic connections and economic cooperation alongside the provision of opportunities for people from both countries to engage in tourism with one another.
On maritime issues, both Vietnam and China have agreed to maintain peace and stability, and resolve issues at sea in the spirit of mutual awareness between the leaders of both countries. Chinh stressed that both countries need to utilize negotiation mechanisms to resolve conflicts through peaceful methods in accordance with international law, especially the UNCLOS.
China has been Vietnam's largest trade partner for years, while Vietnam is China's largest partner in ASEAN. Bilateral trade turnover between the two countries reached $175.6 billion in 2022, with Vietnam's exports reaching $57.7 billion and imports reaching $117.87 billion, according to the Vietnam Customs.
