More than 6,000 people signed up for the phase 3 trial of the Nanocovax vaccine
According to the Military Medical Academy, the number of volunteers is increasing rapidly every hour. In just the past 10 days, more than 5,000 people have registered, bringing the total number of volunteers who want to participate in the phase 3 trial of the Covid-19 vaccine Nanocovax to more than 6,000 people.
In phase 3, Nanocovax vaccine will be tested at many centers in the country with about 13,000 volunteers. In the North, clinical trials were conducted at the Military Medical Academy and Hung Yen, and in the South, the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City and Long An participated. In Long An, the number of registered volunteers has not been aggregated because the localities have not submitted it.
It is expected that this week, the Nanocovax vaccine will begin a phase 3 trial, which will be divided into several small phases, with a single injection of 25mcg dose group and a control group of placebo injections.
After the phase 3 trial period for around 2 months, when enough data is available, the Ministry of Health can submit it to the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister for consideration and urgent approval of the Nanocovax vaccine to be widely administered to the people.
The results of the first two-phase trial showed that the Nanocoax vaccine was safe, 100% of the volunteers produced antibodies from tens to hundreds of times, much higher than expected.
The vaccine is also effective against the British and South African variant. The effect with the Indian variant will continue to be studied in phase 3.
Nanocovax vaccine has been developed by Nanogen company since May 2020 based on recombinant protein technology. This is a stable vaccine production technology that has been around for a long time.
Phase 1 trial of Nanocovax vaccine started from December 17th, 2020, and phase 2 has been completed by April 8th.
Currently, Nanogen has received financial support from a domestic bank, the company is preparing materials and lines so that when the vaccine is successful, it will be mass-produced. The maximum capacity of the plant is about 6 million doses/month.
